Heat from a grill placed too close to this home had warped the vinyl siding. The homeowner initially asked Fixquisite to quote foam faux-stone panels. Dave compared that option with stone veneer and recommended the stone for its durability and finished appearance.

For this project, the stone veneer cost less to purchase but took more work to install, leaving the overall costs comparable. Dave handled the demolition, wall preparation and veneer installation, then painted adjacent hardware to complement the stone.

Deck replacement & outdoor living

A larger deck. A more inviting way to the backyard.

The homeowners wanted to replace an existing deck that raised safety concerns and create more usable outdoor space. Dave designed and built a larger replacement with a wide staircase opening directly toward the backyard.

The new layout makes the stairs a central part of the deck, creating a more open connection between the house and yard. The homeowners also discussed a possible future roof. That later addition would need its own design, capacity and permit review.

To keep costs down, the homeowners chose to handle all staining and sealing themselves. These photos show the deck build before that homeowner-applied finish.

What began as a deck repair changed once the layers came off. Dave uncovered extensive rot, 2×4 framing, limited fasteners and brackets, and irregularly placed vertical 2×4 supports. After assessing the exposed structure, he determined that the deck could not be repaired.

The revised plan made use of what was already there. Dave removed the deteriorated deck and reused the concrete patio underneath. He also donated pavers for the section that had not been paved, helping keep the new approach within the project’s budget.
